Jeffrey P. Anthony, DO, has been highly regarded in the field of sports medicine for more than 22 years. Recruited for his expertise, he has overseen the medical care of many local and national athletic teams, including the Bud Light Professional Beach Volleyball team, National Hydroplane Races, Professional Indoor Soccer League, San Diego State University, and the US Olympic training Center.

 

A graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Dr. Anthony went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He furthered his training with an internship and residency at Phoenix General Hospital and later specialized in a sports and family medicine fellowship at San Diego Sports Medicine Center. Today, Dr. Anthony is board certified in both sports medicine and family practice, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice as well as the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. He is a senior partner at the San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center, and has a large family practice.

 

Dr. Anthony’s interest in spine medicine grew while treating countless spinal injuries in athletes and firefighters.He became director of the Heartland Preventative Program, preventing lower back, neck and other injuries in California firefighters.He also is currently director of the San Diego Sports Medicine Physical Therapy Center, which offers among its many services, a swimming pool for comprehensive aquatic strengthening and restorative rehabilitation of spine and other injuries.

 

In addition to caring for professional athletes and other patients through his private practice and outreach programs, Dr. Anthony is an assistant clinical professor at UCSD, is involved with teaching family practice residents and fellows in sports medicine, and lectures nationally on sports medicine. He has been an active member of several professional societies, as well as board member for the San Diego Academy of Family Practice, American Osteopathic Society for Sports Medicine, Alvarado Hospital and Reebok University. He also has participated in numerous research projects and in co-writing several published works.
